Dr. Gloria

Dr. Gloria Horsley is an internationally known psychotherapist and bereaved parent who has worked in the field of family therapy for over twenty years. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licnsed Clinical Nurse Specialist. Dr. Gloria hosts the syndicated talk radio show, Healing the Grieving Heart, which can be heard live every Thursday. This show is one of the top ranked shows on Health Voice America and is re-broadcast on the new women’s channel (Greenstone Partnership) and on World Talk Radio, the World’s Laargest Radio Network. Dr. Gloria also serves as National Board Member and Chairperson of The Open to Hope Foundation.

Dr. Gloria has appeared on numerous television shows such as: The Today Show, Montel Williams, Sallie Jessie Raphael, Good Day New York, and Fox After Breakfast. In addition she has been a guest on over 150 talk radio shows. Dr. Gloria’s latest book, TEEN GRIEF RELIEF: Parenting With Understanding, Support and Guidance, written with her daughter, was published in the Fall of 2007. Dr. Gloria serves the Compassionate Friends in a number of roles including as a Board of Director and chairperson for TCF’s annual program for professionals. She presents numerous seminars throughout the country, and conducts annual workshops at National Compassionate Friends Conferences. Dr. Gloria frequently serves as a media spokesperson for TCF in her dual role as a bereaved parent and professional.

Dr. Gloria has served on the faculty of the University of Rochester School of Nursing and has trained and practiced with the leaders in the field of family therapy. Her early research involved Hospice and AIDS therapy. In addition, she worked for the FDNY/Columbia University Family Assessment Program with widows and children who lost a firefighter in the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks.

Dr. Gloria’s academic credentials include a doctorate in psychology (PhD) from Greenwich University; she holds a masters degree in child and family studies from Syracuse University (MA), and a masters degree in psychiatric nursing from the University of Rochester (MS)

Dr. Horsley has authored articles on her work and has written several books including: The In-Law Survival Manual: Cultivating Healthy In-Law Relationships, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1997; and In-laws: A Guide to Extended Family Therapy, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1996.

Dr. Gloria resides in San Francisco, California with her husband, Phil. They have three daughters and ten grandchildren.
